The Lowtechs, Highly Acclaimed

Manila has been bustling with new sounds and trends. And recently a familiar name has been buzzing around the Manila Indie Scene, and suprisingly they are mountain top locals. This Baguio Born band is taking over the Metro Scene Fast. We got a hold of their vocalist and had him share a few things about TheLowtechs.

IndieBC: Were here with Gelo of THELOWTECHS and he's here to tell us about their roots, music and their goals. Hi Gelo
Gelo Lagasca: hello IndieBC!
IndieBC: Paano nagumpisa ang THELOWTECHS?
Gelo Lagasca: nag start last year sa birthday party ni Edong April. 4 2007. Kausap ko si Pot tungkol sa music. Eh nagkataon na may gig na inorganize nila Rose Urquico(a good friend) ng April 7, sabi namen nakakainggit tara buo tayo ng banda para makatugtog sa sabado! Tapos ayun tinawag namen si Edong tsaka Lem. La kami maisip na pwesa kaya ayun gumawa nalang kame ng songs the day after.

Note: Suprisingly TheLowtechs have just celebrated their first year in the music scene! Kudos Kudos!

IndieBC: Sino-sino ang Lowtechs?
Gelo Lagasca: Gelo - guitars, singer, Lem Galleto - Guitars, back-up vocals, Edward Theodore Bareng - Bass, Back-up Vocals, Pot "of gold" Quiambao - Drums

IndieBC: Pede mo ba idescribe mga kabanda mo isa isa?
Gelo Lagasca: pati itsura nila? hehehe
IndieBC: Pwede rin. :D
Gelo Lagasca: or how they play in the band?
IndieBC: Mas ok siguro yun.
Gelo Lagasca: O cge hehehe. I'll start with Pot. Pot is the most influencial person in the band. Sasabihin niya baka sapaw, kaya ok. Lem naman cya ung nakakagulat na figure sa amin. everytime we rehearse or jam, he never fails to surprise us.

IndieBC:
Anu yung genre niyo at bakit?
Gelo Lagasca: Nung first few weeks namen, di hindi namin alam. Kasi parang ganun daw ung genre namen. Ayun nadiscover namen ang post-punk. Post-punk pala ang banat namen. Hard hitting new wave.

IndieBC:
What are your biggest influences?
Gelo Lagasca: me or as a band?
IndieBC: Both? :D
Gelo Lagasca: Ako - Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen, Psychedelic Furs, Baushaus pero ngayon I listen to Adam Green, Paul Weller, Elliott Smith, Markus Highway, si Lem- The Police, The Jerks, Markus Highway, di ko na alam ung iba eh. Edong Jesus and Mary Chain, Joy Division, di ko alam ung iba. As a band - Joy Division , Echo and the Bunnymen, Psychedelic Furs, The Cars, The Doors, The Police, The Ventures. Ayun the Rakespala pinapakinggan ko ngayon tska Inspiral Carpets. Ngayon napagtitripan ko rin Misfits

IndieBC:
What should look forward to in future?
Gelo Lagasca: What we should look to? Tama ba? More songs... we will never stop writing and listening to songs, tsaka record lang ng record
IndieBC: Hopefully this year lalabas na album?
Gelo Lagasca: This year we hope to release our first album. Yun lang muna

IndieBC:
Any last words sa mga babasa ng blog na to?
Gelo Lagasca: Just do it! Make it happen! No more excuses! hehe.
IndieBC: Thanks Sir Gelo!
Gelo Lagasca: hahaha
